Welcome Ms. Myers!
We are delighted to welcome Liz Myers as our new Principal/Assistant Head of School on July 1, 2021. She is an experienced educator with a demonstrated history of working in urban education. For over twelve years, Ms. Myers has been teaching students in all grade levels within the Harrisburg School District, at Capital Academy in Harrisburg, and through the Substitute Teaching Service. Her experience is also wide and varied, from teaching first grade as a long-term substitute, to working with students who have learning and emotional needs, to teaching English to middle and high school students. With a B.A. in Communications, a Masters in Public Administration, and a Masters of Science in Education, Ms. Myers is passionate about the importance of an equitable education system.
In 2009, while pursuing her degree in public administration, Ms. Myers started teaching as a substitute teacher in the Harrisburg School District. After a few months of teaching and observing the power of education on students’ overall well-being, she knew her calling was to education. Ms. Myers’s enthusiasm for furthering her own education was reignited by Harrisburg’s youth and inspired her to make a career transition into education.
Ms. Myers’s years of experience in the Harrisburg School District allowed her to develop relationships with students and families, while benefiting from the reciprocal effects of student-teacher learning. She also served in multiple school leadership positions, including yearbook advisor, curriculum developer, professional development facilitator, school improvement plan committee member, and project-based learning leader.
Ms. Myers is excited to join a school that inspires students to become better citizens by focusing on the whole student. During her leisure moments, Ms. Myers likes to spend quality time with her family, enjoy the great outdoors, or get lost in a good read.
