SEAD in Action: A Culture of Celebration, Resilience, and Accountability in Pre-K

At Logos Academy Harrisburg, our education expands farther than academics. Our school is dedicated to providing a holistic elementary education that is trauma-invested and rooted in Christ, as we strive to develop the whole student. A part of this commitment is developed through our SEAD-focused curriculum – a curriculum that intentionally develops students S.ocially, E.motionally, A.cademically, and in D.iscipleship (S.E.A.D.). While our faculty and teachers utilize SEAD in many procedures of the day, it is best seen in daily, classroom learning.

In Pre-K, SEAD is just beginning to grow. Our Pre-K teachers Ms.Kelli and Ms.Heather share how important the social and emotional aspects of SEAD are to the beginning development of our Pre-K students.

“We are teaching our students to use kind words through actions and it’s really beginning to show. One of our student’s was nominated for Logo’s KiDS Cub and another student said they were proud of them. We can really see how our students are growing socially and emotionally. Instead of being upset that they didn’t get nominated, they were happy for their classmate.” Ms. Kelli followed up with.

This type of social and emotional growth from SEAD is building a culture of celebration and a heart of resilience and persistence in our Pre-K kids. These students celebrate their classmate, while maintaining persistence in working to achieve a nomination of their own. This will later support them in their confidence and persistence as a learner.

Ms.Heather also shared how students are held accountable for their behavior – sharing their daily sticker chart and also sharing how students hold each other accountable for behaviors such as listening ears and disruptive behaviors.

Through faith, persistence, and patience, our Pre-K students are growing in their ability to socialize and work through emotional challenges when things get tough. SEAD is creating a culture of celebration and accountability for Pre-K peers, not of feeling disheartened when they don’t get what they want or are struggling with an assignment – and that culture is inspiring and developing the whole student.

To our supporters, this idea and culture cannot be built without you. Thank you for consistently believing in our mission and your generosity to create Pre-K classrooms where students are celebrated, receiving 1-on-1 learning, and developing foundational skills that will lead them as a learner in the future.
