When Micah’s parents, Jackie and Mike, prepared to enroll him in kindergarten, they knew he needed something different. The youngest of five children, Micah had attended Head Start for preschool, but it quickly became clear that their local public school could not provide the consistent, individualized support they hoped for. They wanted a school where their son would be more than another student in the classroom. They wanted him to be seen, known, and understood.

From his very first year, Micah’s teachers recognized both his challenges and his potential. In kindergarten, his teacher identified fine motor skill difficulties early and connected him with the support he needed to grow. In first grade, his teacher noticed Micah’s natural leadership. He intentionally encouraged Micah, gave him opportunities to lead, and helped him discover that his voice mattered.
Today, as a second grader, that confidence has blossomed. After a conversation at home about understanding decisions from a principal’s perspective, Micah came to school with an idea
“I thought Mrs. Kauffman needed a break,” he explained.
He mentioned his idea to Head of School Jessie Kauffman, and together they launched Leopard Leaders, a program that encourages students to lead with kindness, dependability, and safety while learning that leadership means putting others first. Micah became the very first “Principal for a Day.”
“It was awesome!” he said. “It is hard to be a leader because you have to be in control of everything.”
He spent the day helping in the office, assisting in the kitchen, and even giving up recess to serve others. In the process, he discovered that leadership isn’t about being in charge, it’s about serving.
Micah is growing academically as well. This year he mastered multiplication after spending extra time studying with tools his teacher provided. Just as importantly, he has learned healthy ways to manage frustration and anger, including counting to ten and taking a deep breath before reacting.
Micah thinks Logos is a great place for students. “The teachers are nice,” he says, “and they don’t give up when kids have bad behavior.”
For Jackie and Mike, that’s exactly what they hoped their son would experience. They know Micah is safe. They know he is loved. They know he is being challenged academically while also growing spiritually and learning the biblical character traits their family seeks to reinforce at home.
