Volunteer Spotlight: Joy’s Heart for Service at Logos Academy Harrisburg
When Joy first heard about Logos Academy Harrisburg eight years ago, she had no idea that it would become such a meaningful part of her life. Since then, Joy has been a devoted volunteer, dedicating one morning each week to supporting the students and staff at Logos Academy Harrisburg.
For Joy, volunteering isn’t just about giving her time—it’s about building connections and making a difference in the lives of the students. She finds it deeply fulfilling to spend time with the children, getting to know them and watching the teachers in action. “It’s so meaningful to me to be able to come in once a week and see the kids grow,” Joy says. “I really get to see their personalities.”
One of the things that brings Joy the most joy is being able to play the role of a “grandma” figure for the students—a trusted adult who can be a listening ear and speak truth into their lives. She sees her time with the kids as an opportunity to offer both encouragement and wisdom, especially during the challenges they may face. Recently Joy was able to take the time to pray with a student who was having a difficult day and remind her of Jesus’s love for her.
The connection she has with the students goes beyond just academics. Joy’s time at Logos Academy Harrisburg has also been a source of personal nourishment for her own soul. She reflects that spending time with the students helps put her life into perspective. “Seeing some of the realities these children face, reminds me of what’s important,” Joy shares.
A particular highlight for Joy is the time she spends reading with the students and helping them sound out words. She says, “I hope that reading together helps to foster a love for books.”
Joy’s influence at Logos Academy Harrisburg extends beyond her weekly volunteer shifts. She’s also played a key role in fundraising efforts by being a monthly donor for the past eight years, as well as by opening her home for dessert nights, which have helped build valuable connections for the school. Her willingness to host these events has been instrumental in raising both awareness and funds for the school’s mission.
Joy’s commitment to volunteering at Logos Academy Harrisburg is a testament to her heart for service and her belief in the power of education. By giving her time, she’s not only helping to nurture the students at Logos Academy Harrisburg but also enriching her own life in ways she never expected. Her quiet presence, her willingness to listen, and her investment in the students’ growth are all part of the impact she’s having at the school.
Our staff and students are thankful for Joy’s dedication. Her service is a powerful example of what it looks like to be a committed, Christ follower and is making a difference in the lives of Logos Academy Harrisburg students.
